FLAVORS

Kent Eshelman, tuba and In-Ja Eshelman, piano

In bringing together the music for this CD, I chose some of my favorite pieces to play on the tuba. These works, from four different centuries, include previously unrecorded works for tuba as well as compositions originally for contrabass trombone, cornet, flute, trumpet, and voice. This assortment of music displays a variety of distinct "flavors" — musical styles, characters, and moods — and the brevity of the compositions and movements allows these flavors to be arranged in close proximity, just as in a bowl of fruit. My hope is that the musical seeds planted by the composers are presented here fullgrown, ripe, and juicy...and that you enjoy tasting each one in turn! ~ Kent Eshelman
