White Dwarf (referencing a newly discovered star) is a setting of whimsical and, at times, satirical and often acerbic poems by the late John Updike.
The work is composed for Mezzo-Soprano, Tuba, Piano, and off-stage sound effects. At the request of Don Liuzzi for a concert at The Curtis Institute of Music, it also exists in a version with four percussionists who replace the piano part.
